Telimele

Before

Télimélé is a particularly landlocked town in Middle Guinea.
Spread over 9,000 km2, covering almost a hundred villages and with nearly 230,000 inhabitants, the Télimélé region is blocked by rugged terrain, which makes it very difficult to access. The 150 km which separate it from the neighboring town of Kindia take more than 9 hours of track time.

A true crossroads between Boké, Labé and Kindia, Télimélé has 14 sub-prefectures but only one hospital, under-equipped and dilapidated. No sedentary NGO in the city, a few sporadic but ephemeral and short-lived actions.

NOW

Télimélé is an “advanced base” for the fairground strategies carried out by our Kindia ophthalmological unit. Already opened in 2013 with light equipment, Télimélé has been the subject of missions in rural areas carried out by our Kindia team. Quickly, the need to transform this “care center” into a real ophthalmological unit was felt.

Adequate equipment was sent to the site in order to provide the structure with the necessary materials to carry out consultations and surgical interventions. This therefore saves the Kindia medical team from having to delicately transport their equipment during the advanced strategies they program.
