Before
The creation of the Dabola unit is linked to the closure of that of Conakry. The Conakry structure had been dormant for some time when our local correspondent, Dr. Fodé KEITA met the Director of the Dabola prefectural hospital to consider the study of opening an ophthalmological unit within his establishment. .
Faithful to our establishment agreement, we withdrew from Les Flamboyants by handing over all of our equipment to the Guinean government for its exploitation.
New material was collected in France and shipped by container. Dr René FRITSCH, Vice-President of Voir La Vie, went on site to carry out a scouting mission in order to define the distribution of spaces and the installation of equipment.
Six months later, and a very significant rehabilitation of the premises, he left to set up the unit and put it into operation. It was March 2013.
NOW
The operation of this structure, the fifth opened by Voir La Vie, was to be carried out under the model of that of Boké, namely in partnership with the SightSavers International association. The representative of the English NGO, Fanfodé KONDE, alerted us, at the beginning of 2015, of the decision of its management to withdraw from health operations installed "inside" the country to devote itself to the development of Cadesso, a training center in ophthalmology built a few years ago by their funds in the capital.
A meeting with the coordinator of the National Plan for the Fight against Blindness and Onchocerciasis, Dr. André GOEPOGUI, allowed us to assign the health management and operation of our unit to Dr. CECE, responsible for the Faranah unit. . This choice was logically dictated by the geographical location of Dabola, dependent on the administrative region of Faranah.
The development of eye care programs in Dabola has therefore fallen into the hands of the local Regional Directorate and the staff assigned today depend on the ophthalmological services of the Faranah regional hospital.
