Before
The Au Cœur des Hommes (ACDH) association has been operating in Benin for 11 years. She had developed medical expertise in the fields of bush medicine, dentistry and obstetrics.
Encountering more and more cases of ametropia and visual disorders during its missions, ACDH turned to Voir La Vie to help it carry out the project of creating an ophthalmological unit in Pobè.
A few audit, administrative framework and preparation missions later, the inauguration of the new unit took place on October 20, 2016.
Surgical theater and consultation room are now operational. The assignment of a head of department followed in the person of TSO (Higher Technician in Ophthalmology) Pierre Nanukon, capable of treating minor ocular pathologies.
ACDH then withdrew from the program, leaving Voir La Vie in complete charge of the development of this unit.
NOW
The team of collaborators was formed around Pierre Nanoukon with the arrival, at the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019, of two recruits:
– Elvire PADOUNOU
– Marguerite FAKEYE
Voir la Vie quickly expanded its ophthalmological services to refraction. An optical center was created in 2019, equipped with a complete visual acuity examination room. The management of this new unit was entrusted to Marguerite, with Elvire assisting Pierre and completing Marguerite's shifts.
Training missions were carried out with the participation of volunteer opticians and administrators of our association: Amandine LEPAGE, Fabienne PENTAGROSSA and Lionel SIMON.
These missions share the exchange of know-how with ophthalmology since Drs Bertrand ARNOUX and Georges RIOUX participate, taking charge of Pierre's requests for professional development.
Finally, from 2023, the TORRILHON Opticians Group, based in the Rhône Alpes Auvergne and Alsace region, has invested alongside us to ensure the training of our optical staff. Its energetic manager, Laurent TORRILHON, assisted by Guillaume LAUREY, carried out a first mission in April to lay the foundations for their group's involvement in the development of Marguerite and Elvire's know-how.
